You definitely want to know how to conduct due diligence. It’s similar to lawyer putting his case together. You need learn everything you can about your future company, it’s employees, culture, financial strength, and mission or goals. Additionally you must inquire about the position you seek. Was the job open due to expansion, did someone leave and under what circumstances. What kind of values does the company have and is there room for career growth or long-term employment. All of these questions can easily be found if you know what is due diligence and make an effort to find the information. So get out your detective hat and pipe and investigate a company that you’re interested in pursuing for employment, so you can put your game plan together. Not only do you want to investigate the job, you may want to investigate employees and get a feel for their attitude toward the job and the company. The results will either surprise you or reinforce positive potential for the job opportunity. It only human nature to become excited and want to jump right into the huddle, but you’ve got to know who you are playing and how best to attack. You want to make sure you even want to be in this game. Listen, you can find information on anybody and anything you want if you take the time to do it. You just have to make you sure you did it right and get the information you need. Are you going to dive into the pool without checking the depth of the pool? I think not! So don’t make that same mistake with your career. Not only will your efforts up front help you determine if you want the position, but will give you the edge over the competition. Is market research by definition important?
Market research by definition is the process of investigating the business area of interest and the companies involved in that sector. In short you are investigating the future for a prospective employer and attempting to determine how they will fare, especially in light of the economy and other financial conditions. An example would be going to work for a company that has plans to outsource production to a foreign country, or perhaps use outside contractors. You also need to know if the company is financially stable, or prone to layoffs due to market conditions, whether it is publicly or privately funded, and even how their stock price is doing if traded. Fortunately, the internet has given us a valuable research tool along with all the other different research methods. Your investigations should let you know how viable that particular sector is and potential for growth. You certainly want to know if you area of interest is one to pursue for the long run, in order to help make that all important career decision. More importantly It is advisable to find a company that gives an indication for long-term employment. Certainly is it better for you to have a stable work history and not be branded as a job hopper. Additionally, if the future is bright in a new technology area, you need to ask yourself if you qualified or will you need to invest time and money for more education or training. All too often college graduates find out too late that they have spent four years pursuing an area that has little demand for jobs. It’s also a good idea to check out not just a particular market, but also all companies you are interested in pursuing or are offering opportunities. A strong market is important, but a potential employer needs to share their strength for growth, vision, and capability. It might be timely to check out some business research articles that will let you know where they have been, how they are doing, and what the futures hold for a prospective employer. This means you write down all the questions you want to ask and not leaving anything to chance. You want to roll the dice, go to Vegas. There are always general interview questions that give them an idea of what you are about before they get into specifics.
